Kitchener Chiropractor | Dr. Michael White

I think outside of the box when it comes to health…

For years I personally suffered with back pain as a teenager in high school, if I really think about it I could never get comfortable sitting in a chair. Many teachers thought that I had an attention problem, but I just couldn’t get comfortable, I would sit up straight for a little while, then slouch down or lean on one side. When all else failed I would go for a washroom break. I was even tested for diabetes because of consistent washroom interruptions.

When I was 16, I injured my back in a hockey game that was so severe I was unable to move; the constant pain and discomfort scared my mother, who took me to a Chiropractor the next day. I remember crawling on my knees across the lawn to the office and then crawling through the busy waiting room. Fortunately for me I didn’t have to wait in line, I was immediately taken to a treatment room, where the chiropractor hooked me up to a machine to help calm the muscles, and then preceded to “crack my back”. It was the most amazing thing I had ever experienced, I was able to get up immediately and walk out of the office without assistance and standing upright. I visited the chiropractor a few more times in the following couple of weeks and was excited to see that even the “normal everyday pain” that I had experienced for years was also starting to go away. A few more sports injuries and visits to the chiropractor and I soon realized that I wanted to become a chiropractor.

Nine years of post-secondary education later, I received my doctorate of Chiropractic from Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas. A nice addition to the Bachelor of Science degree I received from the University of Waterloo. After all that “learning”, the phrase that sticks in my head the most was from a senior professor who told the graduating class to remember that “patients don’t read textbooks”. This idea has encouraged me to think outside the box when treating conditions that seem unusual or when treating patients with severe symptoms in the absence of any positive tests.

Beyond the walls of the Chiropractic Health Centre, I am a husband and a father of two beautiful girls. A part time soccer coach, swing instructor and taxi cab driver. I am passionate about my deteriorating golf game and try to keep in shape with hockey, running and resistance training.

I have always had an interest in sports and physical fitness. I continue to maintain a regular resistance-training program and maintain cardiovascular fitness through sports and aerobic training. I also try to make good food choices. I’m not a fanatic, but I try to make healthy choices for my family. Everything in moderation is a great motto when it comes to your diet. I also receive weekly chiropractic treatments, not because I have any particular pain or injury, but because I want to perform at my best everyday. Chiropractic adjustments keep my body flexible and the nervous system moving properly. Chiropractic is the fastest and easiest way to maintain my overall health.
